Went to this thing called the Social Media club last night where a group of us discussed social media marketing. Lots of different people in the group including from startups, PR agencies, journalism and research.
One interesting fact that emerged was that a well-known media company is paying people to act as "professional Diggers". They basically pay people to spend the day building up digg accounts with friends, comments etc, and submitting stories from their publications in order to drive traffic and in-bound links. The person who came up with this information claimed a friend of his was being paid to do this but he wouldn't reveal which company it was (unfortunately he was doing a January detox so there was no way of loosening his tongue).
Anyone got any ideas which company this is?
